EXCELLENCE IN RISK MANAGEMENT

Who can enter?

This category is open to individual European in-house senior-level private and public sector corporate risk and insurance managers, with at least five years of experience at a senior level as an ERM or insurance manager.

Category description

The Risk Manager of the Year award searches for the inspirational master of risk and insurance management. For this award we are seeking to recognise and highlight the combination of knowledge, innovation, risk management best practice and the ability to foresee risks and prevent dangerous endgames.

The candidate will have an excellent all-round knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by corporates and the skills to motivate, lead and innovate to create and execute successful risk management programmes.

This category is open to individual European in-house private and public sector risk and insurance managers with less than five years’ experience.

Category description

The reputation of the risk management profession has been developed over the course of many years, however for this award we are seeking to acknowledge the stars of the future and someone with a fresh view on the profession.

In the early stages of their career as a risk manager, with less than five years of experience as an ERM or insurance manager, the candidate will nevertheless have a good knowledge and understanding of the successes and failures of the past, but more importantly will have an appetite for innovation to address the developing needs and challenges faced by corporates in today’s rapidly changing environment.

This category is open to teams or individual European in-house private and public sector risk and insurance managers from within their organisation. 

Category description

Innovation thrives in difficult economic times especially as risk becomes ever more interconnected. This category will reward the successful implementation of an innovative ERM or insurance programme that highlights fresh thinking from risk and insurance managers and / or their colleagues when tackling complex risk challenges across their organisation. 

The innovative programme should address one of the four global, interconnected and potentially systemic trends of crucial relevance to European risk managers and their organisations in the mid to long-term. Those trends are, in no order of importance: geopolitical shifts, technological acceleration, climate change and human capital.

Entries for this category should demonstrate:

1) Excellence

  • how this initiative addresses the emerging risks facing their organisation and contributes to enhanced business resilience
  • how this initiative has or is expected to improve the practice, strengthen the overall operations and / or redefine business processes within their organisation
  • successful project and team working, including results obtained so far and how the initiative has enhanced common practices.

2) Innovation

  • with examples, how innovative approaches and tools were used to solve complex problems and challenges faced in relation to one of the key risk trends (i.e. geopolitical shifts, technological acceleration, climate change and human capital)
  • the execution of a programme that was original and different from traditional approaches.

3) Above and beyond

  • strategic foresight and cultivation of a culture of long-term thinking
  • an awareness of the importance of the extended risk management community
  • the core values, mission or vision that drives the candidate or initiative's achievements and contributions

Who can enter?

This category is open to working or recently retired (within two years) private or public sector individuals, or to an initiative created by an association, that has made a significant contribution to the development or outcomes of a European risk management association.

Category description

The work done by the European risk management associations forms the bedrock of progress and recognition for the role of the risk manager. Whether large or small, these national associations provide a community, a valuable resource, education and a collective voice for individual risk and insurance managers, positively influencing the role they play within their organisation.

By awarding this honour, the judging tribunal will recognise a person who they believe has made an outstanding, significant and long-lasting contribution to the wider risk management community through their tireless executive or non-executive role/s with a risk management association or associations, or to an initiative created by a risk management association with the same goal.

TRAINING & EDUCATION EXCELLENCE

Who can enter?

This award is open to risk manager associations, insurers, brokers, education bodies, e-learning providers and all firms who can demonstrate a commitment to supporting the development of skills and knowledge amongst risk managers through investing in an existing programme of activity.

Category description

A key topic that has become increasingly important is the development of education, skills and knowledge within the risk management and associated professions.

It reflects the fact that, in today's fast changing world, if risk managers are to remain competent, they must continue to develop and enhance their skills and knowledge. Associations, insurers, brokers and other providers of important services to the risk management community are embracing the drive for providing education and training support to risk managers at all stages of their careers.

This award is open to broking firms only and is designed to reward firms that have made a lasting impact on their clients through innovation and customer service.

Category description

Fostering the themes of partnership and innovation, the winner of this award will be judged on their ability to be creative in addressing customer requirements and who encourage an entrepreneurial culture throughout their organisation.
